Adding email records in Wix
Wix manages DNS records only for domains connected by name servers. For a domain connected by pointing, the records stay with your domain host.

Steps
- Go to Domains in your Wix account, click the Domain Actions icon next to your domain and select Manage DNS Records.
- Click + Add Record in the section for the record type, such as TXT (Text) or CNAME.
- Enter the Host Name (leave it blank where the instructions say @) and the Value.
- Click Save. Wix edits one record at a time, so save each record before adding the next.
Common mistakes
- Wix reserves the www host name for connecting your Wix site. A provider that asks for a www CNAME gets a Hostname already in use error, so ask it for a different host name.
- If the domain is connected to Wix by pointing, Wix says to add TXT, MX and DKIM records with your domain host instead, because that host controls your DNS.
- When a mail provider gives several MX records, add the one with the lowest Priority value first so they appear in ascending order. Wix says the Priority numbers themselves don't need to match the provider's.
- Deleting the domain's default A or CNAME records while tidying up DNS can take your Wix site offline.
Watch out for
- MX records have their own screen: choose Edit MX Records from the Domain Actions menu.
- Wix recommends keeping every record's TTL at the default value.
Frequently asked questions
Does lowering the TTL in Wix make changes go live faster?
No. Wix notes that changing the TTL does not speed up how long a record takes to propagate.
Will switching to Wix name servers keep my email working?
Wix imports existing MX records automatically, but any CNAME or TXT records your email provider needs must be added by hand in your Wix account.
Is connecting by pointing faster than by name servers in Wix?
No. Wix gives up to 48 hours for either connection method.
Can I change the NS records of a Wix domain?
No. Wix does not allow updating the name server (NS) records for a Wix domain.
